PhysMed is proud to support Australia's veterans. If you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) card, you can access physiotherapy, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and recovery through Club PhysMed at our clinic in Unley, Adelaide — care designed to support both body and mind. David Boyd, a registered physiotherapist and member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association, leads a practical, whole-person approach that's well suited to the long-standing issues many veterans carry.
Care for the whole person
Service life can leave its mark in more ways than one. Persistent musculoskeletal pain, old injuries, reduced mobility and the toll these take on sleep, stress and mood often go hand in hand. Rather than treating a single sore spot in isolation, PhysMed brings several complementary approaches together under one roof:
- Physiotherapy — assessment, hands-on treatment and progressive rehabilitation to rebuild strength, movement and confidence.
- Acupuncture and Chinese medicine — a calming, time-honoured approach that many people find helpful for pain, tension and general wellbeing.
- Rejuvenation Room and recovery — infrared light, sauna and contrast therapy through Club PhysMed, all physiotherapist-guided.
Combining treatment of the body with genuine recovery for the nervous system is why a growing number of veterans find this model a good fit.
What you'll need to get started
DVA-funded allied health care is generally accessed with a valid DVA card and a referral from your GP. For ongoing allied health such as physiotherapy, the DVA uses a treatment-cycle process: your GP refers you for a course of treatment and reviews your progress before any further care. You can read more on the DVA website.
In practice it's simpler than it sounds, and we'll help you through it. Bring your DVA card and your GP referral to your first visit and we'll take care of the rest, keeping your GP informed along the way. If you're not sure whether you're eligible or what your card covers, have a chat with your GP or contact the DVA — and feel free to call us with any questions.
Our approach
Everything we do is built around helping you take your health into your own hands. That means clear explanations in plain language, realistic timeframes, and a plan that builds capacity rather than relying on endless passive treatment. Where it helps, we'll combine physiotherapy with tendon rehabilitation, back or neck care, acupuncture and recovery sessions — whatever best supports your goals.
