FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you might want to know before your first visit to PhysMed. Can't find your answer? Call us on 0466 337 497 — we're happy to help.
Appointments
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to see us privately for physiotherapy or Traditional Chinese Medicine. A referral or care plan is required if you're claiming through Medicare (Chronic Disease Management), DVA, or NDIS — just let us know and we'll guide you.
How do I book an appointment?
Call or text us on 0466 337 497, book online, or send a message through our contact page. We'll find a time that suits you.
What should I wear or bring?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Bring any relevant scans, reports or a referral/care plan, plus your private health card if you'd like to claim a rebate on the spot.
Is there parking?
Yes — there is onsite parking at the front of the clinic, so you can pull up right out the front for your appointment or recovery session. There's also additional parking at the rear, off Irwin Lane.
What are your opening hours?
We're open Monday and Friday 8:00am–6:00pm, and Tuesday to Thursday 8:00am–7:00pm. We're closed on weekends.
Treatment & frequency
How many treatment sessions do I need?
It depends on you — your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. After your first assessment we'll give you a clear, honest estimate and a plan to work towards. Some acute problems settle in just a few visits; longer-standing or post-surgical issues take more. Our aim is always to make you independent and reduce your reliance on ongoing treatment and medication — not to keep you coming back forever.
How often should I come?
This changes as you progress. Early on — especially after surgery or with an acute injury — more frequent visits (often a few times a week) get the best results, particularly when paired with our recovery room. As you improve, we space sessions out and shift towards a self-managed strength and recovery plan. We'll tailor the frequency to your stage and goals, and adjust as you go.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
A thorough chat about your health, history and goals, a hands-on assessment, and the start of a clear plan. You'll leave understanding what's going on and what the path forward looks like — not just a quick fix.
Physiotherapy
What conditions do you treat?
Sports and overuse injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, tendon pain and tendinopathy (Achilles, patellar, gluteal), back, neck and shoulder pain, and running injuries — among others. If you're not sure, give us a call.
What physiotherapy services do you offer?
Sports physiotherapy, rehabilitation programs, myofascial therapy, dry needling and trigger point therapy. 1-on-1 Pilates is coming in the next few months.
What's the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?
Dry needling targets tight muscles and trigger points to release tension and pain. Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and works within a broader framework of health. Because David is trained in both physiotherapy and Chinese medicine, he can choose — or combine — whichever suits you best.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
What does acupuncture help with?
People commonly seek acupuncture for musculoskeletal pain, stress and sleep, recovery and inflammation, and general wellbeing. We'll talk through your goals at your first visit.
Is acupuncture painful?
The needles are far finer than those used for injections, and most people find treatment deeply relaxing. You may feel a brief, mild sensation as a needle is placed, but it shouldn't be painful.
What TCM treatments do you offer?
Acupuncture, ear acupuncture, fire cupping, Gua Sha, Tuina (Chinese remedial massage) and lifestyle medicine and advice — matched to your needs.
Recovery & Club PhysMed
What recovery facilities do you have?
Two Rejuvenation Rooms with full-body red and near-infrared light panels (photobiomodulation) and far infrared saunas (a 1-person and a 2-person room), an Odin ice bath, a Beautiful Water® filtered cold shower, and a stretching room with trigger balls, a massage gun, foam roller and a NordicTrack X24 bike (an Align Reformer is coming soon).
Can I use the recovery centre without seeing a physio?
Absolutely. Club PhysMed is open to members and casual visitors for guided recovery. Every protocol is overseen by our team so you get the most from it safely.
What are the benefits of the infrared sauna and red light therapy?
Far infrared sauna provides deep, gentle heat that relaxes muscles and helps your nervous system downshift. Red and near-infrared light (photobiomodulation) supports cellular energy and recovery. Many people combine the two — or alternate sauna with the ice bath for contrast therapy.
Can I combine red light therapy with acupuncture?
Yes — it's one of our most popular combinations. Pairing red light therapy with acupuncture makes for a deeply restorative, drug-free reset, all delivered under one roof by a practitioner trained in both physiotherapy and Chinese medicine.
Payments, rebates & funding
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit cards, PayPal and offline payments. For physiotherapy and acupuncture we offer on-the-spot private health rebates through HICAPS — just bring your health fund card.
Can I claim a private health rebate?
Yes. If you have extras cover for physiotherapy or acupuncture, we can process your rebate on the spot via HICAPS, so you only pay the gap.
Do you accept Medicare, DVA and NDIS?
Yes. We work with DVA clients, Medicare clients (with a valid referral / Chronic Disease Management plan), and NDIS participants. See our NDIS page for more on how we support NDIS funding.
